Monday Musings || On Online Dating

I’ve dabbled in the online dating thing a couple of times. Even thought one was pretty serious. Boy, was I wrong about that. (No, you’ll never get that as a storytime. It’s rather humiliating.) A couple years ago, I reactivated my dating profile to see what’s out there. I wish I could say the outlook was positive, but as you can see by the title of this blog, that would be a big, fat nope! It’s even gone so far now as to see some of the same people I chatted with — and even went on a date or two with!! — on the dating app. Last night, I got a message from one of them who definitely didn’t remember ghosting my stupidly naive self five years ago. Now I don’t respond to many messages on there (only one so far who said I was a bot before he blocked me), but a friend and I craft some lovely responses to make ourselves chuckle. And the response to last night’s message is a good one.

“I know there’s this unwritten rule about calling girls back after a date, but I’m pretty sure five years is way too long.”

Yes, that probably doesn’t sound like much to you, but thinking back to the few days after what I thought was a decent date (and still do, actually), it’s a solid dig — if the dude even remembers me after that. Which, to be honest, I’d forgotten his name. So maybe it wasn’t that memorable of a dinner of pizza and beer. Whoops!
